Serving communities in need

The Niagara Falls Underground Railroad Heritage Center is dedicated to making museums accessible and equitable to underserved populations. We understand that there are many social and financial barriers to many children and families coming to museums that we aim to make more accessible.  Museums inspire understanding and connections for communities and the Heritage Center is dedicated to the Of/By/For model to make museums more equitable.

The Niagara Falls Heritage Center is an inaugural member of Of/By/For since 2018

Neighborhood Memberships

To reach and serve our community, residents of Niagara Falls residents can receive a free Neighborhood Membership to the Heritage Center. The membership entitles unlimited admission for 1 adult and any dependents(under 18) who live with them. This membership must be redeemed in person.

Arts Access Program

Arts Services Inc.’s Arts Access program aims to break the barriers of inaccessibility to the region’s arts and culture sector These barriers often include money, transportation, and knowledge of events. They partner with local theaters, galleries, and other arts and culture organizations to offer free or reduced-cost opportunities to low-income Western New York residents and their families. Arts Services Inc. envisions a region where anyone can engage with the arts. The Heritage Center has been a part of this program since the museum’s opening in 2018.

Museums for all

Museums for All is an access initiative of the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) that aims to ensure that every family and child has access to a high-quality museum experience. Participating museums offer deeply discounted admission to any individual or group of four individuals participating in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) by presenting an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card. This program is a broader accessibility program for non-local residents.
