Experience the Underground Railroad at the Site of the Cataract House on Juneteenth

In celebration of Emancipation Day on June 19th, the Niagara Falls Underground Railroad Heritage Center will be offering our Cataract House Site Tours. This experience will start off at the former location of the Cataract House Hotel, located at Cataract House Park (120 Old Main St., across from the Red Coach Inn and the Turtle building). Saladin Allah, Director of Community Engagement and descendant of freedom seeker Josiah Henson, will be guiding this tour from the site to the Falls tracing the footsteps of many freedom seekers.

Tours take place at 11:00am and 7:00pm. The tour will further emphasize the historical significance of the City of Niagara Falls as a major crossing point for many freedom seekers, and allow participants to discover more about the self emancipation of freedom seekers such as Nancy Berry, Patrick Sneed, and Martha.

Following the 11:00am tour, conversation will continue at Spot Coffee located at 24 Buffalo Ave. The conversation for the 7:00pm tour will continue at Simply Soul located at 829 Main St.

Tour admission is free, and RSVP is encouraged to help us plan for the event by letting us know how many people to expect. Purchases at the local restaurants are not included.
